I wanted to create the best possible tea latte, so I started with a high-quality Earl Grey Crème from Art of Tea.
And the result was just amazing!
Even my wife, who doesn’t really like tea and never skips her morning coffee, took one sip and said: “I don’t need my cafe latte anymore!”

Here’s how to make an Earl Grey Crème Latte at home:
Why This Recipe is a Must Try!
- Made with premium Earl Grey Crème: The quality tea gives it a bold yet smooth flavor with natural vanilla and citrus notes.
- Creamy and comforting: It’s perfect for slow mornings or afternoon resets.
- A serious coffee alternative: Even die-hard coffee lovers (like my wife) have been won over by this latte.
- Easy to make at home: No fancy tools required, just good tea, milk, and a few minutes.
- Great with foods: Pairs perfectly with pastries, toast, and desserts.
Ingredients & Equipment
The most important ingredient of this latte is the tea itself: Earl Grey Crème!
It’s a variation of classic Earl Grey, but with added vanilla and sometimes a touch of cream flavor, which makes it feel richer and smoother.
If you can get your hands on a high-quality blend, like the one from Art of Tea, it makes a big difference. The bergamot should be fragrant but not overpowering, and the vanilla should round it out instead of making it too sweet.
If you don’t have Earl Grey Crème, regular Earl Grey will still work—you’ll just get a slightly bolder, more citrus-forward flavor.
Milk is what gives the drink its creamy body and café-style finish. You can use whole milk for the richest texture, but oat milk, almond, or even coconut milk all work beautifully if you’re dairy-free.
Just make sure the milk you choose froths well. Some plant-based options are better than others, especially barista blends designed to foam.
Honey or sugar is optional, but a little sweetness really brings out the vanilla and citrus in the tea.
If you’re using a more floral Earl Grey Crème, honey works especially well because it adds a warm note without overpowering the delicate flavors. Adjust the amount to taste, or leave it out entirely if you prefer a more classic, unsweetened tea latte.
As for equipment, a French press is great for brewing loose-leaf tea and also works surprisingly well for frothing milk. But if you don’t have one, any tea infuser or even a teapot with a strainer will do.
To froth the milk, you can use a handheld frother, a milk steamer, or just heat the milk and whisk it by hand(vigorously) until it gets a bit foamy. You’ll also need a kettle for heating water and two mugs or latte glasses for serving.
This recipe doesn’t need any fancy gear, just a few simple tools and good-quality ingredients.
The result feels indulgent and comforting, especially on slow mornings or chilly afternoons!
Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 2 tablespoons Earl Grey Crème tea (or regular Earl Grey if that’s what you have)
- 1½ cups hot water
- 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons honey or sugar (optional, to taste)
How to Make Earl Grey Crème Latte
Instructions for making 2 cups:
- Gather your ingredients: Grab your tea, milk, honey or sugar, and something to brew with—a French press works great, but you can use a teapot, tea infuser, or even just steep it loose and strain after.
- Brew the tea: Measure 2 tablespoons of the Earl Grey Crème and place it in your French press or infuser. Yes, I know it’s a lot, but you really want to brew a strong tea. Then pour 1½ cups of hot water (around 200°F or 93°C—not a full boil) over the tea. Let it steep for about 4–5 minutes.
- Add honey or sugar: While the tea’s steeping, add your honey or sugar directly to your mugs or latte glasses. This way, it melts smoothly when the hot tea is poured in.
- Froth the milk: Froth about 1 cup of milk with a coffee machine. Or heat the milk until it’s hot but not boiling and then froth it using a milk frother, French press (just pump it a few times), or even whisk it vigorously by hand until it’s foamy on top.
- Assemble the latte: Pour the brewed tea into your prepared glasses and give it a gentle stir to mix with the sweetener. Then slowly pour the frothed milk over the top. Spoon on any remaining foam if you’ve got it, and enjoy!
Tips & Variations
- Add a splash of vanilla extract to boost the creamy, dessert-like flavor—especially helpful if using plain Earl Grey instead of a crème blend.
- Top with a light dusting of cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm, cozy finish that pairs beautifully with the tea’s citrusy notes.
- Use lavender Earl Grey or add a pinch of dried culinary lavender while steeping for a subtle floral twist.
- Make it iced: Let the brewed tea cool, pour it over ice, and top with cold frothed milk for a refreshing version.
- Try brown sugar instead of honey for a deeper, almost caramel-like sweetness that complements the vanilla perfectly.
- Infuse the milk with spices like cardamom, cinnamon, or even a tiny bit of ginger for a spiced twist.
- Make a “dirty” version by adding a shot of espresso if you want a stronger morning kick.
